Recommendation Letters

If you need a recommendation letter and have decided that I am the right choice to write it for you, please be aware that I receive dozens of requests every semester and that I take the task seriously. Therefore, I must set a series of conditions that make writing these feasible and warranted.
Please check the following points to verify that you meet the conditions.

  • The due date for the letter is at least three weeks away.
  • You have taken a full course with me, you completed a large class project under my supervision, or participated in a research project under my supervision.
    • If you took a class: You must have gotten at least an A- AND you must have made an impression for me to be able to place you (participation, quality of work, etc.). If I don't remember you, I can't recommend you.
    • If you completed a class project: You must have made an outstanding job on it.
    • If you completed a research project: Your contribution must have been significant.

If you meet these criteria, make sure that you make a request in the following fashion:

  • Send me your full name.
  • Indicate when it was you first met me and when did you first complete work (attend a class) under me.
  • Send me a description of the position/internship/job you are applying to.
  • Explain the recommendation process:
    • Do I give you a letter?
    • Do I submit a letter to a link you provide?
    • Do I receive a request from somewhere and provide data there?
